Highest flood alert in force in 11 places

The highest level of flood alert is in force in 11 places in the Czech Republic, mainly in Moravia and Silesia but also in the northeast of Bohemia. While the levels of many rivers ceased to rise overnight, dozens are still swollen following days of heavy rain. Meteorologists have warned that some rivers, particularly the Morava, may rise further.

Flooding has led to traffic restrictions in some areas. Rail transport has not been affected but some bus services have been curtailed.
