Tennis: Petra Kvitová advances to French Open round 16
Despite a difficult start, Petra Kvitová, the world no.11, qualified for the knockout stages of the French Open on Saturday by beating the Canadian Leylah Fernandez (no. 100). She led 5-1 before losing 7-5, 6-3. Kvitová will face China's Shuai Zhang (no.39) on Monday for a place in the quarterfinals.
Barbora Krejčíková was the first Czech to reach the round of 16 on Friday. In the third round she defeated Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova 5-7, 6-4 and 6-3. A doubles specialist, she has made the round of the best 16 in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time. She faces Argentina’s Nadia Podoroska on Sunday.
