Voting begins in regional and Senate elections

Voting began in elections to regional assemblies and one-third of the seats in the Czech Senate on Friday afternoon. Some people in quarantine for Covid-19 have already voted in special drive-in polling centres and with mobile electoral commissions.

However, the main voting began at 2 pm on Friday, with polling stations remaining open until 10 pm before again welcoming voters from 8 am to 2 pm on Saturday.

The Senate elections operate on a two-round system. If no candidate receives over 50 percent of the vote in the opening weekend, the two front-runners will enter a run-off in a week’s time.
