St. Wenceslas Pilgrimage low-key due to coronavirus crisis

Several hundred people from around the country joined the annual pilgrimage dedicated to St. Wenceslas, the patron saint of the Czech nation, in the town of Stará Boleslav on Monday.

The open air mass celebrated outside the church where the prince was murdered by dissenters, is traditionally the highlight of the celebrations of Czech Statehood Day.

On the day,  St Wenceslas's skull is on display in the crypt of the local basilica.

Due to the coronavirus crisis attendance was restricted to 500 people this year and many of the traditional accompanying events had to be cancelled.
