PM: No economic measures to curb spread of COVID-19 will be put in place
The Czech Republic is headed for a tough autumn, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said in a pre-recorded address at Wednesday’s National Centre for Industry 4.0 summit in Prague. Mr. Babiš said that the country cannot afford further economic measures, possibly referring to those taken in the spring of 2020 when the pandemic first hit the country, and called on everyone to follow security and hygiene rules that are in place.
The final bill for the coronavirus will be counted after the pandemic is over, the prime minister said, but highlighted that the government will not impose any limitations of an economic character. He said that while the number of cases is rising many people are behaving as if the virus had already gone and stated that the core aim of the government was to protect over those over 50 who suffer from secondary diseases.
