2005 – 88th Segment: “Tabáček”

On May 2 Czech Television launched broadcasts of news channel ČT24.
On May 15 the Czech Republic won the Ice Hockey World Championships.
On November 25, the Slovácký verbuňk, a folk dance, was added to UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
2005 was another very successful year for the top Czech pop-rock band Chinaski, who won the Anděl award for group of the year in March and racked up a slew of other honours.
In September, the band’s sixth album, Music Bar, came out. It sold over 23,000 on its first day of release and topped the charts.The most popular song on Chinaski’s 2005 LP was Tabáček, or Baccy. It became the most played song on the Czech airwaves that year and was also the most downloaded song on mobile phones.
