Czech cross-country skiing fans were disappointed on Sunday, when Katerina Neummanova decided at the last moment not to take part in the traditional Jizerska padesatka race at Bedrichov, north Bohemia. Neummanova recently announced that she was expecting a baby and putting her career on hold, but her pregnancy wasn't the reason she chose not to participate for the 36th Jizerska padesatka.

"I decided on Saturday not to take part, not because I didn't want to, but because I have a bit of a cold and a chest infection and have difficulty breathing. So it was for health reasons but otherwise I definitely would have taken part. The conditions were perfect and I wanted to have a pleasant ski."

The Jizerska padesatka was won by Sweden's Oskar Svard, with Czech favourite Stanislav Rezac coming second.
