Representatives from the Czech Republic and the Commonwealth mark Remembrance and Veterans' Day
November 11th marks both Remembrance and Veteran's Day in many countries around the world, including the Czech Republic; Sunday saw several special masses and commemorative events held.
Flowers were laid on the graves of Commonwealth soldiers' who died on Czech soil and a wreaths were placed at a commemorative plaque at the cemetery, while a military band played.
Also on Sunday dozens of American war veterans, who fought in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and Bosnia, met the west Bohemian town of Rokycany to remember the end of the First World War. American veterans first commemorated Veterans' Day in former Czechoslovakia in 1990. On Sunday a wreath was placed by the memorial plague at the town hall, followed by a special mass then held at the Church of the Our Lady of the Snows.
