'Prague - Unique Heart of Europe' exhibition opens at Old Town Hall
The Old Town Hall in the centre of Prague is one of the city's main tourist attractions and a frequent venue for all kinds of different exhibitions. Currently underway is one which depicts the development of the Czech capital throughout its 1000 year-old history. Alena Skodova reports:
The exhibition is called 'Prague - the Unique Heart of Europe', and it's being held to mark the 10th anniversary of Prague's inclusion in the UNESCO list of cultural heritage sites. More than 30 years earlier, though, in 1971, the Czechoslovak government declared this unique city a protected urban area. Architect Ladislav Honeiser explained why: But with the fall of the Communist regime in 1989, Prague's appearance started to change. Mostly for the better, but as Mr Honeiser says, new problems have arrived along with the influx of new, often foreign, investors: The exhibition is open till the 26th of May.
