Czech Government Launches Bid to De-Politicise Public TV
The minority Social Democrat government will ask parliament to approve a bill on Friday which it hopes will help resolve the crisis over the country's public television station - Czech Television. Olga Szantova has the story.
The refusal of Director General Jiri Hodac to step down,
and the refusal of Czech Television's supervisory board to sack him, has snowballed into a wider political crisis which the government knows has to resolved as soon as possible. They say Czech TV's supervisory board - whose members are currently nominated and appointed by parliament - must be de-politicised. Libor Roucek is the spokesman for the Czech government.
