Yes, it's sport once more and in motorcycling there were a couple of surprising results at the Czech Republic Grand Prix, which was held in Brno weekend. On their home patch, the Czech competitor Jaroslav Hules finished 9th and his compatriot Jacub Smrz 11th--an admirable result for the Czech riders in what is the 50th anniversary of the race.

Smrz is particular was pleased with his finish--the 17-year-old gaining his first Grand Prix points in what was his 5th race ever. The youngster said later, "I just told myself to stay calm and not to make any mistakes."

Italy's Max Biaggi rode his 500cc Yamaha to a convincing first victory of the season. Biaggi, who started from pole position and took the lead on the second lap, finished 6.641 seconds clear of fellow Italian Valentino Rossi, riding a Honda.

Turning to the weekend's football, and there is a very familiar look already to the top of the Gambrinus League table with the champions Sparta leading the way with maximum points from their opening four matches. Their latest victory came away to Jablonec, with their star striker Josef Obajdin once again getting on the scoresheet, smashing a blinding shot just inside the Jablonec left post in the 18th minute.

Jiri Novotny increased Sparta's lead just after half-time, and new signing Marek Kincl sealed victory six minutes from time after collecting a pass from the veteran Horst Siegl.

On top of the table just 24 hours before had been new boys Synot Stare Mesto. They destroyed Viktoria Plzen on Friday night by 5 goals to nil at home, with Jiri Kowalik scoring a suberb hattrick.

Slavia kept the pressure up as well. A header from Ludek Zelenka in the second half was enough to give last years runners-up a 1-0 win at home to Liberec.
