Another bronze for the Czechs
Yes, it's sport, of course, and less than 24 hours after Stepanka Hilgertova notched up the Czech Republic's first gold medal of the Sydney Olympics, the team is celebrating again. Martin Tenk took the bronze medal in the Men's 50m Pistol finishing with 566 points. The tempestuous Bulgarian Tanyu Kiriakov took the gold medal in the event, just ahead of his Belorussian rival, Igor Basinsky.
Another reason to party, then, for the army of Czech journalists that have pitched themselves in Sydney for the duration of the Olympic Games. One of the lucky ones to have made the trip is Miroslav Konvalina of Czech Radio, and as he explains, they all seem to be having a whale of a time: Miroslav Konvalina there on the line from Sydney. In the pool, Daniel Malek has qualified for Thursday's final of the Men's 200m Breaststoke. He came in second in the first semi-final in a time of 2:13.46, eight hundredths of second behind the American Kyle Salyards.
Let's also not forget the valiant Michal Palinek and Martin Lebl. The Czech beach-volleyball duo bowed out 15-4 in the 3rd qualifying round of the competition against the number 10 seeds from Spain, Diez and Bosma. Not bad, though, for a land-locked country.
