Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala has ordered three cabinet ministers to help Regional Development Minister Ivan Bartoš deal with the persistent problems plaguing the newly-digitized system of construction permits. They are Transport Minister Martin Kupka , Industry and Trade Minister Jozef Síkela and Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura. Mr. Fiala said that cooperation between ministries is a common procedure especially on big projects such as this. The newly-digitized system for construction permits has come under fire from all sides. Both opposition and coalition politicians have criticised the minister for its problematic rollout on June 1 and some have called on him to resign.

The unsuccessful bidders in the Czech nuclear tender, Westinghouse and EDF, have filed an appeal to the Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) against the selection of South Korea’s KHNP in the tender for the construction of two nuclear units at Dukovany. The two rival companies in the bidding question the Korean firm's authorisation to use the technology offered and the transparency of the entire procedure. The Antimonopoly Office said it is currently analysing the complaint. Czech government officials say this is a common move by unsuccessful bidders and they are not concerned about a threat to the tender.

The former Praha-Bubeneč railway station located on the edge of Stromovka Park opens its doors to the public on Wednesday as a new cultural and leisure centre.
The renovated space, called Station 6, features a café, a gallery, a multifunctional hall, a veranda with a seating area and a bike rental service. It will offer concerts, exhibitions, sports activities and various community events.
Designed by architect Antonín Jüngling and set into operation in 1854, Praha-Bubeneč was the second railway station to open in Prague after Masarykovo nádraží in the city center. The building opens exactly ten years after the last train stopped there.

Sparta Prague have reached the group stage of football’s Champions League for the ninth time in the club’s history and after a 19-year break. The Czech team qualified for the competition with a 2:0 home win over Sweden’s Malmö with goals by Lukáš Haraslín and Albion Rrahmani. This followed a 2:0 win in Sweden in the first leg.
Participation in the Champions League guarantees Sparta Prague over CZK 460 million.
Czechia will have a representative in the Champions League after two years, when Pilsen also made it through three preliminary rounds.

The danger of a spontaneous explosion of a WWII aerial bomb on the grounds of a chemical plant near Litvínov in North Bohemia is over, the police announced on Tuesday. Pyrotechnicians and firefighters are continuing preparations for its controlled denotation, which is scheduled for Thursday or Friday.
Experts determined that the bomb, discovered on the site of the chemical plant on August 21, could spontaneously explode within 144 hours after being pulled out of the ground by an excavator.
As a safety measure, the factory has been shut down, and a security perimeter has been set up until the bomb is safely disposed of.

The selection panel of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize chose its list of three nominees on Tuesday. They are the currently detained Azerbaijani human rights defender and political activist Akif Gurbanov, the leading Venezuelan political figure María Corina Machado, who is engaged in denouncing human rights abuses in her country, and Babutsa Pataraia, a leading feminist activist and human rights lawyer in Georgia.
The winner of the EUR 60,000 annual award, which focuses on human rights defenders worldwide, is set to be announced at the opening of the autumn plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on September 30.

Neurosurgeons from the University Hospital Brno in cooperation with the University Hospital Geneva performed unique brain surgery on a six-month-old child, the Czech News Agency reported on Tuesday.The baby was born in January with hemimegaencephaly, which causes one of the brain hemispheres to grow abnormally. It had caused Oliver frequent epileptic seizures since birth.
In a surgery performed in June, the doctors disconnected part of the brain’s hemisphere of the brain. According to the head of the neurosurgery clinic in Brno, the baby is doing well and his psychomotor development is expected to be very good.

The international security conference Globsec Forum will be launched in Prague on Friday by President Petr Pavel, the organizers announced on Tuesday. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also scheduled to give a speech at the event’s opening.
About ten prime ministers and presidents and 20 defence and foreign ministers from Europe, the Middle East and South-East Asia are due to attend the international forum, organised by the Bratislava-based think-tank.
The forum, which had been previously held in Slovakia, was relocated to Prague following repeated criticism from Prime Minister Robert Fico.According to Globsec founder and director Róbert Vass, the theme of this year's edition will be new technologies and artificial intelligence and their impact on national security. Another topic on the agenda will be the current situation in Ukraine and the Middle East and the future of Europe.

Slovak authorities have revoked temporary protection for pro-Russian Ukrainian politician and businessman Artyom Marchevsky, who is on the Czech sanctions list, the daily Denik N reported on Tuesday, citing the Slovak Interior Ministry.
Marchevsky, who previously lived in Czechia, was placed on the list along with his close associate Viktor Medvedchuk, following the uncovering of a Russian-organised network that was attempting to influence the European Parliament elections in various countries.
The Czech counterintelligence agency, BIS, discovered that cash was being handed over to anti-establishment politicians from countries such as Germany, Belgium and France by the Prague-based pro-Russian network.
