Former Czech national team captain Tomáš Souček has extended his contract with West Ham United until the summer of 2028. The 31-year-old midfielder’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the current season.
West Ham announced the extension on its website. Manager Nuno Espírito Santo welcomed the decision, describing Souček as a key figure at the club, an important presence in the dressing room and a player with a winning mentality whose professionalism sets an example for younger teammates.

Government coalition MPs have urged Czech President Petr Pavel to disclose the cost of his private holiday in Morocco amid suspicions that it was not paid for entirely from his own funds.
MPs from the ruling ANO, Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) and the Motorists want to table a motion for the Chamber of Deputies to formally call on the president to prove payment from his own account and disclose who arranged the plane that briefly brought him back to the Czech Republic on Friday to vote in local elections.
Pavel travelled to Morocco with other members of an expedition on a private plane reportedly owned by billionaire Pavel Hubáček, founder of the Creditas Group. Presidential spokesman Vojtěch Šeliga earlier told iDNES.cz that the participants shared the flight costs.

The Czech Republic welcomes the Irish presidency’s proposal for the next seven-year EU budget, which avoids significant cuts to traditional EU policies, including cohesion, Czech State Secretary for European Affairs Milena Hrdinková said after a meeting in Luxembourg on Tuesday.
However, Prague remains critical of the proposed new EU revenue sources, saying they would be too costly for the country and that the proposed adjustments do not sufficiently reduce their impact.
The Irish presidency has proposed a budget of €1.622 trillion, around eight percent below the European Commission’s original proposal of €1.763 trillion.
The largest cut, 17 percent, would affect Global Europe, which funds the EU’s external action. The proposal also envisages cuts of 13 percent to competitiveness, prosperity and security, 8.8 percent to administration, and three percent to cohesion, agriculture and fisheries.

The Czech Culture Ministry plans to review the scope of its cooperation with major cultural institutions and events, saying it wants to bring it into line with the priorities of the new State Cultural Policy. The policy document was recently approved by the government despite opposition from cultural organisations and experts.
Culture Minister Oto Klempíř’s (Motorists) office wants to discuss new terms of cooperation with, among others, the organisers of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Prague Spring International Music Festival.
The aim of the review is not to end cooperation with major cultural institutions and organisers, but to make it more effective and align it with the state’s current priorities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Czech state-controlled energy company ČEZ will challenge a Luxembourg court order in the Diag Human case, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO) told the Czech News Agency. He said ČEZ representatives were confident they would succeed adding that the ruling would not affect the company’s operations or customers in the Czech Republic.
ČEZ announced on Monday that a Luxembourg court had frozen its stakes in local companies through which it owns gas distributor GasNet. In the Diag Human case, Czech-Swiss businessman Josef Šťáva is seeking around CZK 17 billion in compensation from the Czech state for allegedly not having protected his investments.

Consumer prices in the Czech Republic rose by 2.5 percent year on year in September, up from 1.9 percent in August, according to data released by the Czech Statistics Office.
The increase was driven mainly by higher fuel prices. Compared with August, consumer prices remained unchanged.
Analysts expect the Czech National Bank’s board to raise interest rates in November.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded its growth forecast for the Czech economy for this year and next.
According to its latest forecast, Czech GDP will grow by 1.8 percent this year, with growth expected to pick up slightly to 1.9 percent in 2027.
In its spring forecast, the IMF had projected growth of 2.2 percent in both years. The Czech economy grew by 2.6 percent last year.

MPs are expected to hold the first reading of a government proposal to introduce a windfall tax on oil refineries for this and next year.
The government says the measure is justified by rising refinery margins amid developments on the global oil market. It estimates the tax could generate between 5.5 billion and nine billion crowns this year.
The opposition Civic Democrats consider the proposal controversial, warning that refineries could offset the additional costs by raising prices.
The opposition Mayors and Independent have not criticised the proposed tax, but say the government must ensure that it actually generates revenue for the state budget.

The Chamber of Deputies’ budget committee has recommended that MPs approve the main parameters of next year’s state budget in its first reading. These include revenue, expenditures, a deficit of 386 billion crowns and how it will be financed.
The proposed deficit has drawn strong criticism from the opposition, but opposition lawmakers failed to push through a recommendation that the lower house reject the budget and return it to the government for revision.
The Chamber of Deputies is expected to approve the budget by early December.
