The leaders of a number of European Union states are due to come to Prague on Tuesday at the invitation of Czech PM Petr Fiala to discuss ammunition assistance for Ukraine, air defence for the country and cooperation in the defence industry.
A government spokesperson said on Sunday that Polish President Andrzej Duda, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliňová will attend a working dinner hosted by Mr. Fiala at the Kramář Villa, official residence of the Czech prime minister.

The Czech minister of foreign affairs, Jan Lipavský, says he will urge his counterparts from NATO countries to increase their support for containing Russian imperialism at an informal summit in Prague next Thursday and Friday. Mr. Lipavský made the comment in a social media post responding to Russia’s bombing of a large DIY store in Kharkiv on Saturday.
The summit is being billed as the biggest NATO event in the Czech capital for 20 years and will be attended by the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken, among others.

People around the Czech Republic are gearing up for the final of the Ice Hockey World Championships at Prague’s O2 Arena on Sunday night. Czechia, which has been hosting the event in the capital and Ostrava, will take on Switzerland for the title after convincingly overcoming Sweden 7:3 in Saturday’s semi-final.
The final will be relayed on large screens on Prague’s Old Town Square and elsewhere, while pubs around the country showing the match can expect busy evenings.
The last time the Czechs won the Ice Hockey World Championships was in 2010.

Czechia have reached the final of the Ice Hockey World Championships after a 7:3 win over Sweden in a semi-final clash at Prague’s O2 Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Dominik Kubalík and Lukáš Sedlák both scored twice for Czechia, with the latter named most valuable player, as the hosts delivered a convincing victory over the Swedes in front of an ecstatic home crowd.
The Czechs will play either Canada or Switzerland in the final on Sunday night.

Four people were injured when a Czech bus was involved in a collision with a truck in north-eastern Austria late on Friday evening, the news agency APA reported on Saturday.
A nine-year-old child was among those treated after the crash near the town of Bad Waltersdorf but none of the injuries were serious.
The truck was carrying liquid hydrogen cylinders, which fortunately did not explode. The Austrian police believe the accident occurred when the coach driver fell asleep at the wheel.

The Czech state would like to take over ownership of what is known as the Red Tower of Death near Ostrov, West Bohemia. The national cultural monument commemorates the suffering of political prisoners forced to work in uranium mines in Jáchymov in the 1950s.
The minister of culture, Martin Baxa, made a comment to that effect at the 35th annual event named Jáchymov Hell gathering on Saturday.
The seven-storey tower was used as a uranium ore sorting plant at one of Jáchymov’s communist labour camps, with work at the plant considered the most dangerous occupation for prisoners.

Survivors and relatives of those killed in a mass shooting at a Prague university in December are set be informed next month about the conclusions of an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, Novinky.cz reported on Saturday. Once those closely affected have seen a report into the shooting, which left 14 dead and 25 injured at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts, it will be made available to the general public, the head of the Prague police told the news site.
It was the worst mass shooting in the modern history of Czechia. The perpetrator, a student at the faculty, took his own life before he could be apprehended.

A Children’s Day was held at the Royal Garden and Deer Moat at Prague Castle on Saturday. The attractions include dfolk craft demonstrations, theatre shows, performances by swordsmen and jugglers, and games and competitions prepared by children’s non-profit organisations.
It was the second year that the Prague Castle Administration, in cooperation with the Czech Council for Children and Youth, organised the event under the auspices of the Czech First Lady, Eva Pavlová.
