    Temperatures are set to fall in October with maximum daytime temperatures not exceeding 15 degrees Celsius, according to the Czech weather office.

    Temperatures at the start of the month are predicted to be slightly lower than normal. Maximum daytime temperatures at the end of the month will not be more than 10 degrees Celsius. Minimum daytime temperatures will be around zero.

    It is forecast to rain mostly at the start of the month.

    In football, Sparta Prague drew in a goalless match against Dukla Prague.

    It is the fourth time in a row that Sparta have failed to win away this season and further distances the club from the league leaders. Sparta’s Jan Holenda came closest to opening the score when he hit the post.

    Sparta are in fourth position in the league with 15 points, nine adrift of leaders Viktoria Plzeň who play on Sunday.

    Škoda Auto’s mid-range Octavia model was the third most popular model sold in Europe in August.

    It is the first time that a Škoda model has appeared in the top three of the most popular European models. In July, it was the fourth most popular model.

    Registrations of new cars in Europe rose by 5.4 percent in August. Volkswagen’s Golf was the most popular model in Europe followed by Renault’s Clio. Octavia sales totalled 15,857 sales during the month.

    There were 47 deaths on Czech roads in September, five fewer than during the same month a year earlier and the lowest number since statistics have been kept in recent times.

    Since the start of the year, 376 people have been killed in road accidents. That is 19 less than in the first nine months of 2016. The figures are still preliminary with police due to release the official results during the next week.

    The worst September according to recent figures was in 1997 when 149 died on the roads.

    Prague offers satisfactory office space and good transport facilities as a possible site for the European Banking Authority (EBA) according to an evaluation released by the European Commission.

    But it says the quality of facilities for healthcare and education of the families of employees still has to be evaluated further.

    Prague is seeking to be selected as the site for the European agency once it has to move from London as a result of Brexit.

    Other European cities, including Vienna, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Dublin, Luxembourg, and Warsaw are also seeking to host the agency. A decision is expected in November.

    The Czech Confederation of Commerce and Tourism, which group large and small retailers, has condemned as populism a government move to check on sharp price rises of butter.

    The check was announced by prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka following price rises which have seen the price of a pack soar to more than 50 crowns.

    Sobotka said he was puzzled by the confederation’s reaction since similar moves had been announced in other countries.

    Czech divers have apparently been able to find and explore the wreck of an Austro-Hungarian submarine off the coast of Albania dating from WWI.

    The wreck of the U16 had previously not been discovered or subject to a detailed exploration. The identity of the sub will have to be confirmed during further dives.

    The submarine sank in mysterious circumstances in October 1916. It was probably sunk following an encounter with the Italian torpedo boat, Nembo.

    Prague has been placed as the sixth most attractive city in the world for tourists on their own by the news server Business Insider.

    It created a ranking of the 50 best locations based on evaluations from users of the biggest credit card companies, personal security, and cost of living. The first placed location was Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

    Former Czech policeman Karel Kadlec received a conditional sentence of 20 months in prison suspended for four years from a Prague court for driving into and damaging 24 cars in a spree of damage in a Prague suburb when he was under the influence.

    He will also have to meet 1.3 million crowns of damages connected to the case. The damage took place in April 2016 when the former policemen ploughed into a series of cars parked on a Prague street leaving a trail of damage.

    He was found to have over the limit of alcohol in his blood. Kadlec later maintained that he could not remember anything about the incident.
