The decline in confidence in the Czech economy in October reflects concerns over sharply rising energy commodity prices, the geopolitical situation and weakening demand, according to analysts cited by the Czech News Agency.
Economic confidence fell by 1.6 points month-on-month to 97.9 points, its lowest level since April last year.
The outlook for economic growth has weakened slightly further in recent months, while the risk of faster inflation is increasing, according to Miroslav Novák, an analyst at Citfin.
He said rising energy prices and the possibility that higher costs would gradually curb household spending were the main risks to the economy.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš on Monday began a two-day visit to Algeria aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and developing cooperation in the energy and defence industries.
He is accompanied by Industry and Trade Minister Karel Havlíček , who told reporters ahead of departure that the delegation wanted to discuss possible gas imports with Algeria within Czechia’s diversification strategy. He added that it was too early to say how much gas the country might purchase, as this would depend on what Algeria offered.
Representatives of energy company ČEZ are part of the business delegation, which has also held talks on gas supplies in the United States and Azerbaijan, and is planning a visit to Norway.
Czechia has traditionally maintained a positive trade balance with Algeria, recording a surplus of CZK 2.4 billion in 2024. Its main exports to the country are cars and machinery, while chemical raw materials are among the goods imported into Czechia.

The governing coalition will not withdraw its bill changing the funding of the country's public broadcasters, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said in the wake of a massive protest against the bill on Old Town Square. He said further talks would be held on its specific provisions, with voluntary license fee payments among the options under consideration.
Babiš maintained that abolishing license fees would merely change the funding model, not threaten media independence, and pledged that the government would not interfere in the broadcasters’ editorial work or personnel matters.
Reacting to Sunday’s protest and further demonstrations planned in the coming days, the prime minister accused the opposition and the Million Moments for Democracy association of fueling divisions in society and urged them to stop.
Babiš also said he had information suggesting the issue was to be exploited in connection with events marking the anniversary of November 17, the day commemorating the struggle for freedom and democracy in the Czech Republic.

Thousands of people gathered in Prague’s Old Town Square on Sunday afternoon to protest against plans to abolish television and radio licence fees and transfer funding for Czech Television (ČT) and Czech Radio (ČRo) to the state budget.
The demonstration, titled Hands Off the Media, was organised by the Million Moments for Democracy association.
Around 4,000 people gathered in central Brno on Saturday to show their support for public service media.
In response to developments in the Chamber of Deputies, ČT and ČRo employees have called a full-day strike for Tuesday, November 3.
The opposition has described the proposed changes as a move towards state control of the two public broadcasters and warned that they threaten media independence. It plans to challenge the way the governing coalition pushed the bill through its first reading in the lower house before the Constitutional Court and the European Commission.
President Petr Pavel said the unexpected inclusion of the bill on the agenda and the overnight weekend vote undermined confidence in the government’s good intentions and raised serious doubts about the motives of its proponents.
Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, by contrast, has accused the opposition of exploiting the issue to escalate tensions in the Czech Republic.

Juvenile crime is not on the rise, but its nature is changing, with children shifting from theft to violent offences, including murder, Supreme State Prosecutor Lenka Bradáčová said in a debate on Czech Television on Sunday.
If the age of criminal responsibility were lowered, she would support reducing it from the current 15 to 13 years. The Justice Ministry is considering such a change, which could apply, for example, to offences punishable by exceptional sentences in the Czech Republic.
Justice Minister Jeroným Tejc told Czech Television that he plans to present the proposal in January.
