Newly-elected president stresses need for pension and tax reform

President-elect Petr Pavel has stressed the need to push ahead with pension and tax reforms in Czechia, saying he will discuss the matter in upcoming talks with government officials. Pavel said reforms in these areas cannot be delayed any longer and they need to be properly explained to the public. He said securing progress in this area was high on his list of priorities during his five-year term in office. The need for pension reform has been debated in Czechia for years, but so far no government has managed to achieve broad political consensus on it. According to experts, the tax system is also in need of an overhaul.
