New HIV cases down in first half of year, percentage of infected foreigners up

In the first half of this year, 133 new cases of HIV infection were recorded in Czechia, 19 fewer than in the same period last year, the Czech News Agency reported on Saturday.

According to the National Reference Laboratory for HIV/AIDS at the State Institute of Health, the situation continues to be significantly affected by the war conflict in Ukraine. The number of cases of foreigners with long-term residence in Czechia with HIV increased by 75, with the remaining 58 cases involving Czech citizens.

The proportion of foreigners, 56.4 per cent, is the second highest ever recorded in a six-month period.
