New Covid cases fall Friday but still third highest recorded

Some 2,111 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Friday. The figure was below the 3,130 detected the previous day but – after the 2,139 on Wednesday – is still the third highest seen since the pandemic hit the country at the start of March.

Five people died with the coronavirus on Friday, bringing the total number of deaths to 495, according to Ministry of Health data.

There are 480 people in hospital with the coronavirus, 93 in a serious condition.

A number of restrictions have been introduced in a bid to contain the spread of the virus, which has risen sharply in recent weeks.
