New Covid cases down for fifth day in row

Some 15,541 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Monday, a fall of around 2,000 on the same day a week earlier. It was the fifth day of week-on-week decline in new cases in succession.

The seven-day coronavirus case incidence rate also declined further on Monday, but it remains high at above 1,000 per 100,000.

There were 6,520 people in hospital with Covid, of whom just over 1,000 were in a critical condition. On Tuesday the Czech Army began providing help at three more particularly stretched hospitals, bringing the total number of soldiers deployed in this manner to over 350.
