New cases down, reproduction number lowest in two months

Some 5,443 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the Czech Republic on Saturday. This was a fall of around 1,500 on the same day the previous week.

The reproduction number has also declined, going from 0.87 to 0.85, the lowest value it has had in exactly two months.

Czech hospitals remain under immense strain. Some 8,168 people were hospitalised with Covid on Saturday, compared to 9,400 at the start of the week. There has also been a small decline in the number of patients in a critical condition.

The total number of registered coronavirus deaths since the start of the pandemic now stands at 24,667.
