Netrebko complains of censorship after Prague concert cancellation

The Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko has described the cancellation of her planned concert in Prague as stemming from political pressure. She also complained about being the victim of censorship, the Russian service of the BBC reported on Thursday night, following the news that the performance scheduled for October had been called off following talks between the venue, the Municipal House, and representatives of the star soprano.

Earlier this week Prague’s city government said it was categorically opposed to the concert going ahead.

Ms. Netrebko has been linked to President Vladimir Putin and in the past supported pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine. She spoke out against Russia’s all-out war on Ukraine but did not condemn Putin for launching it.
