National Library marks 900 years since death of chronicler Cosmas
To commemorate the 900th anniversary of the death of medieval chronicler Cosmas, the National Library has opened a rare exhibition featuring hand-written copies of his Cosmas Chronicle. The manuscripts, dating from the 12th to the 17th century, are being displayed together for the first time, on loan from several European libraries.
Visitors will be able to view the originals for four weeks, from September 25 to October 23. Among the highlights are the oldest Leipzig manuscript with an illustration of Cosmas himself, and the newly discovered early Baroque Sternberg manuscript, recently found in the library’s own collection.
