National census may be postponed

The Czech Ministry of Health is to decide whether to postpone a national census planned to take place between late March and mid May in view of the Covid-19 situation. The Central Crisis Staff said it would discuss the matter with ministry officials after holding talks on Wednesday with representatives of the Czech Statistics Office. Such a delay would require a change in the law.

Central Crisis Staff chief Jan Hamáček said the first part of the planned census would take place online. However, a later phase would require 11,000 census commissioners going out into the field.
