National Archives recover two valuable 18th century account books

The National Archives have acquired two account books from the Prague Mint dating from 1716, which archivists until recently believed had been lost. The German-language documents complete a chronological series of account books dating from 1562 to 1774.

The documents include records of the purchase and processing of silver and gold, as well as deliveries of minting materials and machinery. Along with the account books, the archives also acquired records of assay marks used by goldsmiths, silversmiths and jewellers from the First Czechoslovak Republic through the 1950s.
