Nation-wide state of emergency will not be declared for time being

Regional governors and cabinet ministers have agreed that there is no need to introduce a nation-wide state of emergency in connection with the worsening Covid epidemic for the time being. Martin Kuba, chairman of the Association of Regional Governors, said that ideally the law on pandemics should be amended so as to allow the activation of emergency measures in individual regions without the need for a nation-wide state of emergency. A proposal for a state of emergency to be declared came from several governors whose regions have been severely hit by the pandemic. The Zlin region has said it will tone down social activities in the region to a minimum for a fortnight to help hospitals which are nearing their capacity limits.
