Nation-wide heatwave warning and ban on lighting fires
A nation-wide extreme heat warning is in place on Saturday, with temperatures expected to reach over 38 degrees Celsius. By Saturday noon, temperatures at several measuring stations already exceeded 30 degrees Celsius.
According to meteorologists, the heatwave is expected to peak in the afternoon and evening and may bring storms accompanied by strong winds, torrential rain and hail.
People have been warned to increase their intake of liquids, not exert themselves physically and if possible stay out of the sun altogether. Young children, the elderly and people with chronic diseases are particularly at risk.
In view of the dry and extremely hot weather there is also a ban on lighting fires outdoors.
