Musk calls for closure of Prague-based Radio Free Europe and Voice of America
Billionaire Elon Musk has called for the U.S. government to stop funding Voice of America and Prague-based Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL). In a post on X, he described the broadcasters as “left-wing radicals” wasting $1 billion in taxpayer money.
Musk, a close ally of U.S. President Donald Trump, has been tasked with cutting government spending. His remarks come amid broader scrutiny of publicly funded media, with U.S. regulators also investigating NPR and PBS.
RFE/RL, headquartered in Prague, was founded during the Cold War to counter Soviet propaganda. Today, it provides independent news in regions with restricted press freedom.
