MPs to vote on tighter conditions for Ukrainian refugees
MPs are due to vote on Friday on a government proposal to tighten the conditions for temporary protection granted to Ukrainians who fled to Czechia following Russia’s invasion.
Under the amendment, applicants for humanitarian benefits would have to be employed, self-employed or registered with the Labour Office. They would also be required to spend at least 16 days a month in Czechia. The requirements would not apply to children, students or senior citizens.
Temporary protection would also be withdrawn from people who spend more than 30 days outside the Schengen Area, as well as those subject to criminal or administrative deportation.
The package also introduces a requirement for certain drivers of vehicles with Ukrainian number plates to register them in the Czech vehicle register, making it easier to enforce penalties for traffic offences.
