MPs to vote on austerity package Friday

The Czech lower house is set to vote on the government’s austerity package on Friday morning, following a decision of the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday. However a debate on the measures – which are in their third and final reading – was still taking place on Wednesday afternoon. The session has been marked by criticism from the opposition, along with personal attacks.

According to the coalition government its austerity package, which includes an overhaul of the pension system, will help markedly reduce the state budget deficit in the coming years.
