MPs pass bill to ensure traders store minimum level of gas

Gas traders in the Czech Republic who do not use their reserve capacity in storage facilities to a set minimum level may lose part of that capacity, under a fast-tracked amendment to the law on energy approved by MPs on Thursday.

The change – which is aimed at boosting the country’s energy security and independence – comes in response to the energy situation stemming from the conflict in Ukraine. The bill must now go before the Senate.

The minister of industry, Jozef Síkela, said on Thursday that further legislative changes in this area were being prepared.
