More than half of Czech women subjected to sexual harassment, violence – proFEM survey

More than half of women in the Czech Republic have experienced some form of sexual harassment or violence, according to a survey for the non-profit group proFem conducted by MindBridge Consulting.

Most said they had been subjected to verbal harassment, unwelcome physical contact, or have received unsolicited erotic photos or videos.

According to the proFEM survey, about half of victims have spoken of their experience with family members or friends, about 40 percent kept the incidents to themselves, and 10 percent have sought professional help.

About 9 percent of women who responded to the proFEM survey said they have been victims of rape.

The NGO is advocating for the legal definition of rape here to change, as non-consensual sex is considered a crime under Czech law only if proven to have occurred under the threat or use of violence.
