Moravia-Silesia plagued by air pollution

An air pollution warning remains in force in the Moravia-Silesia region for a second day now. According to the Czech Hydro-meteorological Institute the amount of air-borne dust particles still exceeds permitted levels at most monitoring stations in the region. Children and elderly people have been advised to stay indoors or limit their time outside to a minimum. The local authorities have also appealed to drivers to leave their cars at home and use public transport where possible to help alleviate the problem. Air pollution in the region regularly worsens in the winter months due to coal heating.
