Ministry report: number of illegal migrants up in 2019

Czech police last year detained 5,677 illegal immigrants , which is 685 more than in the previous year, the Czech News Agency reported on Saturday, citing a Ministry of Interior report. It is the highest figure since 2015 and the second highest in the past decade.

Just like in the previous years, Ukrainians comprised the largest group, followed by Moldovans, Vietnamese, Georgians and Russians.

The number of foreigners with temporary or permanent residence in the Czech Republic increased last year by 5,1 percent on the previous year to 595,881, according to the ministry report.
