Ministry proposes various methods of voting in quarantine

The Ministry of the Interior has prepared four potential methods of voting while in quarantine ahead of Senate and regional elections in October. These include drive-in voting, special polling stations at places such as nursing homes, the possibility of voting by proxy and a commission that would collect ballot papers at people’s homes. The minister of the interior, Jan Hamáček, said on Tuesday that he favoured all of the methods being approved, thus making it possible to adapt to a variety of situations.

The matter should be decided by the government at a meeting in mid-August with a view to election commissioners receiving training the following month.
Mr. Hamáček, who rejects the idea of postal ballots, says voting by proxy is likely to be the most contentious proposal.
