Military exercise near Dukovany nuclear plant to include simulated gunfire
A military exercise at the Dukovany Nuclear Power Station next week could bring simulated gunfire and smoke effects to the surrounding area. Troops will begin arriving on Monday and remain near the plant until Thursday.
The Safeguard 2026 exercise will test preparedness for protecting critical infrastructure and simulate different attack scenarios at the nuclear facility. Operator ČEZ said the drill would not affect employees or everyday life nearby.
The exercise will involve Czech Army units and selected plant staff. Dukovany, one of the country’s two nuclear power stations, currently has one reactor unit offline for scheduled maintenance.
