MEPs urge Czechia to ratify Istanbul Convention
In a debate in the European Union on Thursday, MEPs called on the Czech Republic and five other member states to ratify without further delay the Istanbul Convention, aimed at preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.
The Czech Republic signed the convention in May 2016, as one of the last EU member states to do so, but the document still needs to be ratified by the country’s parliament and signed by the president to enter into force. Other countries which have not yet ratified the convention include Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania.
