Mayors putting forward both Nerudová and Síkela for European commissioner

The Mayors are putting forward two candidates for the post of Czechia’s next member of the European Commission. The party, who received the right to nominate somebody for the post under the deal under which the governing coalition was formed, said after a meeting on Monday that it would ask the cabinet to consider both Danuše Nerudová, a freshly elected MEP, and the minister of industry and trade, Jozef Síkela.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala says the government will reach a decision on the matter by August.
