Mayors and Independents suffer losses in wake of scandal
The Mayors and Independents Party which was hit by a corruption scandal in recent weeks suffered the biggest losses. In the Senate elections the party defended five seats and fielded 14 candidates in 27 districts. However, only four of them made it to the second round. Party leader Vít Rakušan said that he was disappointed by the outcome but in view of the scandal surrounding the party the results in municipal elections were better than he had dared to hope. He said it would now be up to the party to prove itself.
