Mass for Pope Francis celebrated in St. Vitus Cathedral

Politicians, cultural figures, church dignitaries and members of the public attended a mass for Pope Francis celebrated in St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague on Friday evening. The prayers for the late pope were led by Apostolic Nuncio Jude Thaddeus Okolo. The mass was broadcast live on Czech public television.

Churches around the country rung their bells in memory of the Pope at 6pm on Friday and masses were celebrated in other parts of the country. Thousands of people have been signing condolence books at the Prague Archbishops Palace and dioceses in Brno, Ostrava, Olomouc and Plzen.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala will represent the country at Pope Francis’s funeral in the Vatican on Saturday. A delegation of Church dignitaries will also be present. The funeral will be broadcast live on Czech Television.
