Marta Kubišová to sing in public for the last time on Saturday at Prague’s Lucerna

Marta Kubišová, whose song Prayer for Marta became a symbol of protest against the Soviet-led invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968, will sing in public for the last time this Saturday at a concert in Prague’s Lucerna. The event marks the 55th anniversary of the ban on her performing.

She does not plan to record any new albums. Kubišová’s last studio album, Soul, was released eight years ago, and on November 1, 2017, she officially ended her singing career. Since then, she has appeared only rarely – in 2019 at a concert marking 30 years since November 1989, and in 2022 during celebrations of her 80th birthday.
