Markéta Vondroušová named Sportsperson of the Year

Markéta Vondroušová has been named Czech Sportsperson of the Year for the first time in her career. In a poll of over 230 journalists the 24-year-old Wimbledon champion finished ahead of beach volleyball players Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner in second place and ice hockey star David Pastrňák in third.

The results of the traditional poll were announced on Thursday evening at the Hilton Hotel in Prague. Due to the tragic shooting at Prague’s Faculty of Arts, the accompanying ceremony was cancelled and there was no TV coverage
