Managers of Brno’s urban greenery are protecting trees from drought using injection and mulching

Managers of Brno’s municipal greenery are also responding to the ongoing drought. They have been irrigating shrubs and lawns since February, including on weekends. In recent days, they have also been paying increased attention to trees. To ensure water reaches the roots, they use deep injection watering, said Jiří Kasala, director of the Brno Public Greenery organization, to the Czech News Agency today. Trees on Křenová Street in Brno, for example, have received deep injection treatment.

Workers also fill irrigation bags placed around trees with water. The water is gradually released from these bags and, according to Kasala, they have already become a standard measure. “We cover shrubs and trees with mulch so that water does not evaporate as quickly,” Kasala added. According to him, the lack of water in recent weeks has affected four trees in Wilson Forest. The already weakened condition of the trees was further worsened by the drought, which is why workers had to prune or cut them down.
