Man charged with attempted murder after chainsaw attack in Horní Blatná

Police have charged a 32-year-old foreign national with attempted murder after he attacked a shop assistant with a battery-powered garden saw in the town of Horní Blatná, Karlovy Vary region, on Wednesday. The man entered a general store, threatened the female shop assistant and chased her between the aisles with the saw before seriously injuring her. A local resident intervened, shouting at the attacker and preventing further harm. The 55-year-old victim received first aid and was taken to hospital with serious upper-body injuries. Police are still trying to ascertain the man’s motive. If convicted, he would face 12 to 20 years in prison.
