Lower house strips Andrej Babiš of his immunity opening way for prosecution

Deputies in the lower house have voted to strip ANO leader and former prime minister Andrej Babiš of his parliamentary immunity opening the way for prosecution on charges of EU subsidy fraud. Of the 176 deputies present, the motion was supported by 111. The votes against were those from Mr. Babiš’  own party deputies. Andrej Babiš is suspected of having illegally tapped into a 50 million crown EU subsidy for a company in his multi billion crown conglomerate Agrofert before entering top-level politics. He has been stripped of his parliamentary immunity previously when investigators proposed pressing charges, but the state attorney on the case never filed charges against him.
