Last living Ležáky survivor calls on Putin to halt war on Ukraine

The last living survivor of the Nazis’ razing of the Czech village of Ležáky in 1942, Jarmila Doležalová, has written an open letter to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, imploring him to stop his war against Ukraine without delay. She said she was making the appeal for every civilian and every child, so they did not have to go through what she did.

Mrs. Doležalová and her sister survived the Nazi atrocity because they were taken away to be “Germanised”.

Her relatives hid the paratroopers who had taken part in the assassination of Nazi governor Heydrich and also possessed a transmitter. Ten members of her family were murdered.
