Large increase in counterfeit money registered in Czechia last year

A total of 6,836 falsified or adjusted banknotes and coins of all currencies were registered in the Czech Republic in 2021, the Czech National Bank announced on Wednesday. This is a whopping increase of 5,447 counterfeit banknotes and coins when compared to the previous year. The most popular banknote to be counterfeited was the CZK 2,000 banknote.

According to the National Bank, the rise was primarily thanks to a successful police action in May, when over EUR 1.5 million of falsified banknotes were seized and four individuals charged.
