Krkonoše Mountain Service calls avalanche alert

The mountain rescue service in the Krkonoše Mountains has called a 3rd degree avalanche alert, following heavy snowfall overnight.  Nearly 30 cm of snow has fallen, with up to 1.3 metres on the ridges, a situation that is further complicated by a strong wind.

Heavy snowfall is also complicating traffic in the northern parts of the country which report 15 centimeters of fresh snow overnight. The road from Tanvald to Harrachov and on to Poland remains closed for trucks. The restriction is expected to end at midnight on Sunday.
