Korean president's impeachment will not affect Dukovany tender, says Ministry of Industry
According to the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade, the South Korean parliament's decision to remove President Yoon Suk Yeol should not negatively affect the tender for the construction of the new nuclear units in Dukovany, for which the Czech government has chosen the South Korean company KHNP. Its representatives are now negotiating with ČEZ about the final contract, which they want to conclude by the end of March next year. The first reactor should be operational by 2036.
"According to our information from Korean partners, there are currently no indications that the removal of the president's powers would have a negative impact on the joint project," said Marek Vošahlík, spokesman for the Ministry of Industry, to ČTK. The South Korean parliament today voted for the second time to remove the president, who tried to impose martial law in the country last week. His removal still has to be confirmed by the Constitutional Court. Presidential powers and duties will now be suspended, and his position will be temporarily filled by Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.
